The brand

From a Manchester retailer to a vertically-integrated LED brand.

The British LED brand owning the whole ecosystem — not just the face mask. Skin LED Mask Series 2, Neck & Dec Perfector, Hair Growth Helmet, all on the same wavelength science.

CurrentBody started in 2009 as a Manchester-based retailer of at-home beauty devices, founded by Andrew Showman and Laurence Newman. The original premise was distribution — they sold the early LED, microcurrent and IPL devices other brands were making.

The pivot came around 2019, when the team launched their own LED line. Five years on, the CurrentBody Skin brand owns the LED face mask, the LED neck mask, the LED hair regrowth helmet — and the brand-channel-Skin-Mask category most competitors haven’t followed into.

In Australia, CurrentBody sells direct at currentbody.com.au (the smart route — bundle pricing, full warranty) plus Adore Beauty and limited MECCA Cosmetica.

The category

When the LED brand owns hair, neck and face.

Most LED brands sell one device. CurrentBody Skin sells four — face, neck, hand, hair — all on the same wavelength science.

If not CurrentBody

Six LED & device brands editors keep on the shortlist.

The verdict

CurrentBody built a vertically-integrated LED ecosystem out of Manchester — the Skin Mask Series 2 is the closest cross-channel competitor to Omnilux at the same price tier, and the brand owns hair, neck and body LED categories most competitors haven’t reached.

FAQ

The six questions editors get asked.

Is CurrentBody worth $595?
At parity with Omnilux on the LED face mask. The bundle pricing direct (mask + Neck + LED Lip Plumper bundles) is the smart entry route — saves $150–300 vs single buys.
CurrentBody Skin Mask vs Omnilux Contour Face — which?
Same price tier, similar format, similar wavelengths. Omnilux has the deeper clinical trial portfolio. CurrentBody has the broader product ecosystem (neck, hair, hand). Both FDA-cleared.
Does the Hair Growth Helmet work?
Published trial data shows measurable hair-density change at 16 weeks. Most users report visible density at 6 months. Not a magic bullet — it’s a daily 30-minute commitment.
How long until you see results?
Face mask: visible results 4–6 weeks at daily use. Neck Perfector: 6–8 weeks. Hair Growth Helmet: 16+ weeks.
Where do I buy CurrentBody in Australia?
currentbody.com.au (direct — best for warranty + bundles), Adore Beauty (full range with Afterpay), MECCA Cosmetica (limited).
Is the LED safe daily?
Yes — red + near-infrared LED is non-thermal and the FDA classifies it as low-risk for daily home use. CurrentBody publishes the irradiance + wavelength spec on every device.
