Founded 2000 in New York by Maureen Kelly with a relatively small Sephora launch and a vague clean-leaning positioning around Amazonian clay. For its first 15 years, it was a mid-tier prestige brand among many.
Then in 2015, Shape Tape Concealer launched. By 2017 it was the best-selling prestige concealer in the US. The product effectively rebuilt the brand around itself — every subsequent Tarte launch is, in some way, in conversation with Shape Tape.
Acquired by Japanese cosmetics group Kosé Corporation in 2014. Arrived at MECCA Australia in 2022 after years of Australians buying via Sephora US.
