St Tropez: the honest verdict.

The UK tanning authority, priced and sold in Australia. The question is whether the olive-undertone finish is worth paying for over the local options.

The verdict

Unbeatable on cool-toned skin. Skip on warm.

St Tropez's olive-leaning undertone is genuinely unique in the self-tan category and is the only reason most Aussie shoppers should consider importing it over local products. On cool-toned or olive-adjacent skin, St Tropez Express produces a level of sophistication that neither Bondi Sands nor Loving Tan match. On warm-toned skin, the majority of Australian buyers, it reads flat. Buy by undertone, not brand.

What they do right

  • Olive undertone is unmatched in AU market
  • Customisable development (1h, 2h, 3h wear)
  • Strong face range (Purity Face Mist)
  • Wide AU distribution

What to know

  • Too cool for warm-toned skin
  • Price creep in AU vs UK pricing
  • Classic mousse has outdated scent profile

"The retinol ranking is the only skincare thing I've bookmarked. Every time I see a new product launch I check here first."
