Bondi Sands: the honest verdict.

Every Australian chemist stocks it. Half the bathrooms in the country have a bottle. But is Bondi Sands actually good, or just relentless at distribution?

The verdict

The default choice — and it earns that.

Bondi Sands became ubiquitous in Australian tanning for a reason that is genuinely product-led: the formulas are reliable, the price is honest, and Pure is a legitimately excellent self-tan that competes with products twice its price. The original Coconut range has its detractors (polarising scent, orange undertone), but Pure fixed those issues in 2019 and has been the sleeper hit of Australian tanning ever since. If you buy one Bondi Sands product, buy Pure. If you're sensitive to fragrance, this is the AU brand to choose.

What they do right

  • Pure range is fragrance-free and gentle
  • Best price-per-wear in the AU market
  • Stocked everywhere — Chemist Warehouse, Priceline, supermarkets
  • Gradual range is a legit body-moisturiser replacement
  • Consistently formulated across years

What to know

  • Original Coconut range smells polarising
  • Warm-neutral undertone doesn't suit cool-toned skin
  • Technocolour range is hit-or-miss

"The retinol ranking is the only skincare thing I've bookmarked. Every time I see a new product launch I check here first."
