The Glow

The best Korean toner in Australia.

Korean toners aren't astringents — they're hydrating layers. Five tested across six weeks. The five worth your shelf space.

Tested: April 2026 Editor: Glow editorial No paid placements

Korean toner philosophy is the opposite of Western astringent toners. Korean toners hydrate, soothe, and prep the skin for serums. The category has matured significantly in the last 24 months — alcohol-based formulations are less common, gentler ingredients dominate.

Frequently asked questions.

Do I need a Korean toner?
Not strictly. If your routine is short and you use a hydrating serum, you can skip toner. The Korean philosophy uses toners as a hydration layer before serums — useful in dry climates or for very dry skin, less essential for oily skin in humid climates.
How do I apply Korean toner?
Pat into damp skin with hands or a cotton pad. The Korean '7-skin' method (applying 7 thin layers of toner) is excessive for most skin — 1-2 layers is plenty.
Are Korean toners alcohol-free?
Most modern ones are. The five toners above are all alcohol-free. Older Korean astringent toners (Etude House Soon Jung Whip Cleanser line, some Skinfood) still contain alcohol.
Can sensitive skin use Korean toners?
Yes — Anua Heartleaf and Klairs Supple are calibrated for sensitive skin specifically. Avoid acid toners (Some By Mi, Round Lab Soybean Toner) on actively reactive skin.
Toner before or after cleansing?
After cleansing, before serum. Apply to damp skin for best absorption.
How often should I use a Korean acid toner?
Acid toners (Some By Mi Miracle, Round Lab Soybean) — 2-3 times per week max. Daily acid use is too aggressive for most Australian skin.
Are Korean toners worth it over a hydrating mist?
Different products. Toners deliver concentrated actives; mists are mostly water with humectants. For routine hydration build, a toner does more.
