The best Korean sunscreen in Australia.

Korean SPFs are cosmetically the best in the world — invisible, weightless, makeup-compatible. We tested five against Australian-tested SPFs for protection equivalence.

Tested: April 2026 Editor: Glow editorial No paid placements

Korean sunscreens lead the world on cosmetic elegance. They sit invisibly under makeup, don't pill, don't shift colour. The question is whether they protect like they claim. SPF testing in Korea uses different standards than Australia (TGA-listed). The best practice: use Korean SPFs for daily-wear UV protection; supplement with Australian-tested SPF for beach days, long outdoor exposure, or high UV index forecast.

How we tested.

Six-week daily testing across mixed skin types. Tested for white-cast (visible on Type III/IV), makeup compatibility (no pilling under foundation), texture, residue at 8 hours, and reapplication ease. SPF protection claims accepted from manufacturer; UV efficacy was not independently lab-tested.

Frequently asked questions.

Are Korean SPFs as protective as Australian SPFs?
On daily-wear sun exposure, yes. Korean SPFs are formulated to similar UV protection levels but tested under different regulatory standards. For high-UV outdoor exposure (beach, hiking, peak summer), supplement with TGA-listed Australian SPF for verified protection.
Why are Korean SPFs cosmetically better?
Korean SPF formulators prioritise wear experience: no white-cast, no pilling, makeup compatibility. The chemical UV filters allowed in Korea (Tinosorb S, Uvinul A Plus) produce more cosmetically elegant results than older filters still common in some Australian SPFs.
Can I wear a Korean SPF every day?
Yes — that's their primary use case. Korean daily-wear SPFs are calibrated for office, school, walking-around UV exposure. They protect at this level effectively.
Do Korean SPFs leave a white cast?
Most modern formulations don't. Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun, Round Lab Birch, and most Anua SPFs have no visible white cast on Australian skin tones. Mineral-only SPFs (Innisfree mineral line) have slight cast on Type IV+ skin.
Are Korean SPFs reef-safe?
Some are, some aren't. Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun avoids oxybenzone and octinoxate (the main reef-toxic filters). Verify on individual products if reef-safe matters.
Can I use Korean SPF over Western actives?
Yes. SPF goes last in the morning routine — over retinoids, vitamin C, niacinamide, anything. The chemistry doesn't conflict.
How much SPF should I apply?
Two finger-lengths for face and neck. Most people under-apply by 50-70%, which is why their SPF performs worse than the label claim. Korean SPFs are easier to apply at full quantity because they're cosmetically light.
