The editorial team's verdict

Charlotte Tilbury still leads — but the gap is closing.

Bobbi Brown's quiet rebuild, Fenty's shade-range moat, and Pat McGrath's couture pigments have made the prestige makeup category genuinely competitive again. Mid-tier (Rare, Tower 28, Merit) is the most exciting tier.

How we tested

Six weeks, two skin tones.

Every makeup brand in this ranking was tested in-house by GLOW editorial team over a six-week panel. Each formula went onto two skin tones — one cool-undertone fair, one warm-undertone deep — and was photographed under daylight, indoor warm light and fluorescent.

We test mass and prestige side by side under the same five-axis rubric: pigment payoff, wear, tolerability, value, distinction. Five-axis weights are published in GLOW Standard. Foundation shade range is benchmarked against Fenty Pro Filt'r as floor; mascara is panel-tested over 12-hour wear under Brisbane humidity.

PR samples are accepted but carry no influence on rank or inclusion. Affiliate links may appear but are disclosed and never determine placement.

The verdict.

Charlotte Tilbury (GLOW Score 9.3) wins prestige all-rounder — Pillow Talk, Hollywood Flawless Filter and Magic Cream are still cult for a reason. Bobbi Brown (9.2) takes professional-finish foundation and the pro-MUA standard. Fenty Beauty (9.2) holds shade-range complexion, with Pro Filt'r the deepest base inventory on the Australian shelf.
