Founded in 2005 in Cambridge, Massachusetts by a group of MIT-trained scientists led by Bob Langer, one of the most cited chemical engineers in the world. The brief was unusual for haircare: solve problems the category had stopped trying to solve, and patent the molecules along the way.
The first breakthrough was PolyfluoroEster, a polymer that repels dirt and oil, sold inside Perfect Hair Day. The second was OFPMA, a humidity-resistant polymer behind the No Frizz range. Jennifer Aniston became a co-owner and creative partner in 2012, raising the brand's profile without softening the science.
Acquired by Unilever Prestige in 2016. In 2023, the brand released Triple Bond Complex, its direct answer to Olaplex No.3. The launch repositioned the brand for the bond-repair conversation and gave it a second hero alongside Perfect Hair Day.
