Francis Kurkdjian, already one of the most-respected commercial perfumers in the world by 2009, with Le Mâle and Narciso Rodriguez for Her on his CV, founded the house with business partner Marc Chaya. The line opened with a clear thesis: build a luxury catalogue where every fragrance is signed by the same nose.
Baccarat Rouge 540 launched in 2014 as a limited edition for Baccarat's 250th anniversary. By 2018, it had become the most-searched niche fragrance in the world. Saffron, cedar, ambergris and jasmine, an instantly-recognised scent that crossed from luxury into social media in a way niche rarely does.
LVMH acquired the house in 2017. The catalogue grew, Grand Soir, Aqua Universalis, Oud Satin Mood, À la Rose, but kept its discipline. In Australia, MECCA is the dominant channel alongside MFK boutiques in Sydney and Melbourne.
